It is important to know about some of the platforms; how they are used, who uses them, and how much you can trust them.&nbsp;Many real estate agents have their own presence on various social networking platforms. These include Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, WeChat and even TikTok.&nbsp;According to a 2019 study from the National Association of Realtors, reported by Sprout Social, 77% of real estate agents use social media for their practice. Buyers also seek information about homes online. Sprout Social also reported that 99% of millennials begin the home search online. Sprout Social also states that Facebook is a good starting place to market yourself, considering the age demographic of Facebook users aligns with the current age group searching for homes. Younger people are less active on Facebook than millennials and older people are, providing a more direct pipeline to a target audience.&nbsp;Facebook is one of the platforms with business mode. Clients can follow your page to connect with your business. Facebook also offers an ad promotional service. On your business’ Facebook page, you have the option to add an “action button,” which can be one of the following: “book now,” “sign up,” “view shop,” “start order,” “call now,” “contact us,” or “send message.” When clients click on your action button, they will be taken to your website or will be put into contact with you. On a business Facebook page, clients also have a space to write reviews. More of your business-specific content can be added to your posts. When listings are posted to Facebook, clients have the option to comment, like, or directly message you. The sign up action button takes clients to a place where they can book an appointment with you. Of course, on these sites, anyone can post anything they want and pretend to be anyone they want. The good thing is that the title “Realtor” is a regulated title. If a real estate agent is a member of the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA), they can call themselves a realtor.&nbsp;Instagram, owned by Facebook, works almost the same as Facebook for advertising businesses. Real estate agents can create a business profile, similar to Facebook, with some of the same services. Some business owners may prefer the aesthetic or the feel of Instagram more. The demographic of Instagram also differs from that of Facebook; you can find people of all ages on Instagram, mostly millennials and Gen-z. While there may be younger people on Instagram, professionals can use Instagram for more than just directly promoting their business. Building a presence online through educational posts, question and answer sessions, and audience engagement will not only help your own business, but can help foster an interest in the real estate industry.&nbsp;While Instagram offers a perfect hybrid between educational or audience-building opportunities and direct communication with clients, some professionals and home buyers may benefit from more educational content. With the age group varying widely yet consisting predominantly of Gen-z, TikTok may be the place to begin promoting yourself. By also posting educational, question and answer style videos, TikTok may help with engagement. Sometimes the most random videos and random experts on various topics go viral. Also, don’t assume Gen-z is fully uninterested in real estate; they probably have lots of questions to be answered!When starting a business of any kind, social media is a must. Putting your business out into the world, engaging with potential clients, and offering educational content in your own unique style will help set you apart from the crowd.&nbsp;
