On August 1st of this year, pop superstar Chappell Roan released her long awaited second single of the year titled The Subway. The song details Chappell Roan’s heartbreak when spotting her former lover on the subway and how she is still counting down the days until her ex is “just another girl on the subway.” What particularly caught the ear of Canadians, however, is the line where Chappell mentions a beautiful, but lesser-known Canadian province. As Chappell describes her frustration and heartbreak living in the city, she says “I made a promise if in four months this feeling ain’t gone, well [redacted], I’m moving to Saskatchewan.”Many Canadians are happy to be mentioned in a highly anticipated song by one of the most popular singers of our time. Others are shocked that Americans, outside of football players and their fans, know that Saskatchewan exists. Most of us, however, are happy to receive the chart-topping shout out. According to CBC, Tourism Saskatchewan commented that the song is a one-of-a-kind advertisement that no amount of money could buy.&nbsp;Chappell Roan also told Apple Music that she promises to perform there one day and announced to her Vienna audience that “it’s about time Saskatchewan gets recognized globally” and that she “loves that the capital is named Regina.” Ms. Roan is not only a talented singer, but one with a great sense of humor that has allowed her to have fun with the excitement that she has created in the province.&nbsp;Tourism Saskatchewan’s CEO Jonathan Potts said media outlets like Good Morning America have been reaching out and that he has “been getting media from across the US from people who genuinely want to learn more about Saskatchewan.” The Globe and Mail stated that interactions with Tourism Saskatchewan’s Instagram have increased 1,800% since the song dropped. Tourism Saskatchewan has been playing along with their shout out, posting videos on social media calling for people to visit the province with the line “I’m moving to Saskatchewan” playing in the background. On their website, they posted an article called “exploring Saskatchewan based on your favorite Chappell Roan song.” If your favorite is her new song, the Subway, Tourism Saskatchewan recommends you visit Grasslands National Park, emphasizing how the darkness and lack of artificial lightning is about as far as the city as you can get, indeed being peace and quiet and the cure for heartbreak Chappell described. Interestingly enough, if your favorite song is Pink Pony Club, they suggested you visit Danceland, a venue Elvis played at back in 1954.&nbsp;ABC News wrote an article about Saskatchewan too, titled “Chappell Roan’s breakup song drives unexpected tourism buzz for Saskatchewan, Canada.”&nbsp; They also interviewed Tourism Saskatchewan’s CEO Jonathan Potts, who stated that Saskatchewan is a very welcoming province where everybody belongs. They also included some fun facts about the province that many Canadians likely don’t know: that it is the sunniest province with around 2,500 hours of annual sunshine (compared to 2,066 in Toronto and 1,938 in Vancouver) and that there are 100,000 lakes. CEO Potts says that it is far too early to detect any boosts to the local economy, he agrees that the increased interest in the province is sure to benefit the community.Many Canadians can probably agree that Chappell Roan, and any other visitors who are eager to learn more about one of our quieter communities, are all welcome guests.&nbsp;Having such a small province, its 2025 population is estimated to be just over 1,250,000 people, being brought into the spotlight has also highlighted Canadian hospitality. Who knows, maybe even some Canadians will be moving from the city and seeking refuge in Saskatchewan.Housing is affordable, the people are warm and friendly, and you might just get a chance to see Chappell Roan.
